I was in Sydney last week to visit relatives and friends and was invited to get down with a team of 15+ legal out in Blacktown. Huge thanks to all my Sydney graf friends for there support and special thanks to Bandit Qu333n Spice who spot me for paint as I didn't have the time or budget to buy some. I didn't know until I got to the wall what colours she had picked out but I had no dramas in making it work!

I was pushing for time as it was my last day so with the pressure on I was happy with my end result. I had drawn a sketch the night before which was going to be a Kase II (R.I.P.) memorial piece as he recently sadly passed but when I got to the wall I didn't have enough space to do it. So I reverted and busted out another Paris freestyle classic.

It was a fun chill day with old school beats playing and the weather went from overcast, almost to rain and ended up with full sun! I had a blast of a day and hope to fly back to do it all over again before the years out!

I haven't had much time to paint with other projects keeping me busy this year but I guess it's quality over quantity for me in 2011!

Here's a huge project i had the privilege to work on with 3 other close friends (Obe, Dvate and Peril) and it was hard working through Winter on and off with wind and rain over 4 weeks but we got there in the end. It was great to work on a production as the look and feel of this mural would not of been the same if done solo. All in all I think we achieved what we set out to do as we spent a few months working on this concept and less time in execution! I guess the end result shows this.

A little insight on what went down.

The minute I heard about the project I was keen to get started. Obe was the brains behind the concept and when I seen the portrait image for KRS 1 there was only one person in arms reach that came to mind, Dvate! I give props to him with his portrait painting they are truly superb. So, Obe and I met Dvate at his studio and asked if he'd be down to work with us on this mural and we got the same response as mine which he replied “f#%& yeah! …I've been listening to KRS all day” …timing was the essence!

When Peril heard about this mural he got busy and picked up the pencil and drew 3 fresh old school classic b-boy characters and was itchin to get them up on the wall! Obe and Dvate took care of positioning and scale and Obe painted all the background iconic images including the lion in front of the library building. Dvate produced all 3 album cover KRS 1 images with the huge scaled top to bottom portrait!

I was on type duty and produced the words that spell out KRS 1's name, Knowledge Reigns Supreme. I didn't spend much time pre-drawing a sketch as I felt the urge to bust out and freestyle these letters. For most of my graf life I'd always spend hours and draw a sketch first then replicate it but this time I preferred to skip that and go straight to paint and let it flow out naturally. Replicating a sketch tends to feel restrictive but in it's own right it has enabled me to freestyle with confidence.

Whilst in Sydney over Easter an opportunity arose to paint on a model for a magazine photo shoot. This is a first for me and was something I’ve always wanted to do so thanks to a couple of contacts it was all organised.

I had no plan of attack other than being briefed that the theme's called Angels & Demons. I freestyled the design with a classic Paris piece with angel wings and flame background followed by Angels, Demons in my own hand lettering style with a love heart and pitch fork in between.

Painting on skin was a first for me as i had to work with a moving base and the paint markers needed a few coats to bring the colour out strong. I was lucky that Alli was patient as this took about 6hrs to complete. As distracting as her sexyness was, I got the job done and we both loved every minute of it. I will be working with Alli again later this year for another session so stay tuned!

I’ll keep you posted when the mag comes out but for now here’s a few snaps on how it went down.
I can’t post the finished pic 'til the mag is released but this should give you an idea on how it worked out.

I was invited to be part of Warfare Crews Back Burners exhibition along with a lot of other peeps from around this country and a US entry as well! All artists ranged from old school through to now. There was a huge number of jackets that were on display with some guys getting in more than one!! All were A-Class and great to see a variety of style and concepts on display.

I have been busy of late with a few projects on the go so I only had time to work on one jacket along with my crew partner Peril who both of us are members of the almighty Zulu Nation - Australian chapter (Z-61) and produced a back burner for our chapter leader Zulu King Excel. Peril created the character of Excel and i did the lettering.

We also submitted another jacket each that we have done in the past. Peril’s jacket was 1 of 3 he did for his band 1200 Techniques and mine was out of my vault which is my original Spicer’s jacket I wore with pride at age 12 back in ’84. This was my first attempt at a back patch using fabric textas. The design reflects around the time of Beat Street so a lot of inspiration from Bronx, New York!

Here’s my first piece for 2011. I share a few passions in life with cars, bikes, art and design. I’m active with the Old School BMX scene here in Australia since 2006. It’s another creative outlet for me to express myself with something I dig.

The way this piece came about started from a thread of a select few of us on a BMX forum who have all been part of the Hip Hop culture and now reunited through sharing the same passion with OS BMX. We all got excited and as a result a wall was organised for all of us to meet up and have a squirt.

Some of the guys who came down to the wall I haven't seen since the mid 80’s! It was a blast from the past to meet up with a long lost mate Tim Bond better know as Bondy from USA Crew. At one stage we were pretty close back in the day (85/6) and he was someone who at the time was more skilled than me so naturally I was appreciative of sharing some time with Bondy. Today, he’s amazed to see how the artform has progressed and in saying that he gave it another crack to hold a can and paint but not for his own piece (which I would of loved to see) but helped out a couple of mates from the same era (Mayhem and Clue from Surrey Hills) who gave it a crack after 20+ years! They even had some Kings Way books come by there way for signings!

So i was so pleased to see everyone have a good time and big thanks to everyone who made this possible and to see these guys again Bondy, Mayhem, Clue, Smash, Fergs for making a come back!!

RAD is obviously a 80’s BMX word and was also the title name of the old school classic American BMX film. On our BMX forum we all drew a sketch with the word RAD and shared that with one another. I was not going to let my sketch get away without it being transferred to a piece so naturally i got busy and busted out another Paris style classic to remember the day by!

I was commissioned to do a piece in Union Lane that connects from Bourke Street Mall to Lt Collins St.
It’s part of Melbourne City Councils graffiti management project.

I based this piece on angled letter structure and also grounding it down as a big slab on the bottom!
Chrome colour choice with hints of yellow highlights as the laneway is narrow and I felt that something with more detail would be hard to absorb.

I also met up with a guy named Thomas on the day. He’s a french guy who's here with his girl on a tourist visa. I introduced myself and he recognised who I was from the book Kingz Way! Thomas rocked a piece on the wall as well so it was great to have an international artist rock up by surprise.

Here’s how my night ended after finishing off the piece i did at Knox on the same day. I was dead tired but commited to stick to my word to paint live at a house warming party for a close friend. I freestyled this piece to speed up the process and to get into the flow. I’m sure all party members and the host were lovin seeing the artwork come alive! Cheers, P.

Here’s a piece that was inspiring for me to do as a reminder of where my kings lie, Boogie Down Bronx, NYC. I have always found most of the dopest pieces came from there back in the day and still exists nowdays as well. I substituted the letter “I” with a character as this was common to do to complement your piece as well. Classic!

Peril and I were contacted to put up a piece to raise awareness that Caffe Sienna (a Melbourne landmark on Chapel St) is temporarily closed for renovations for a few weeks. Unfortunately we had 1 night to do this piece as the next night was an event that Peril had to work getting prepped called The Place #3. So, with no time to waste we shifted into gear and got all engines running!

We pushed ourselves to get it done and had to start overnight (causing minimal foot traffic disruption) until the next morning! It wasn't to our favour as it was approx. 6 degrees that night and after 25+ years of paint experience we had all our paint dripping off the wall as there was no humidity to help with the fast drying paint! Peril did it tougher than myself as he had more intricate detail for the characters as to my letters. We worked hard and got through it which payed off with awesome compliments from some of Chapel St local traders in the morning!

I have no work in progress snaps to show how frustrated we were but believe me we worked hard for the end result. …enjoy!

I headed up to Brisbane to attend a vintage BMX show and had to catch up with some old school friends that I hadn't seen for 20+ years! So i had no choice but to leave a mark again and paint a few pieces for the few days i had spare.

I caught up with a long lost old school friend Kasino who has a few cool lifestyle stores in Brisbane but the Valley store was the place we ended up painting in the back car park. It was perfect timing to do this piece as construction was in process to make way for the area to be used as a Sunday artists market and our piece added as a cool backdrop for the new set up.

The piece has a traditional graf sticker style piece (my specialty) and Kasino painted the well known Story Bridge and river with a night skyline of a few buildings. A classic b-boy style character was added on one side and seeing i was attending a BMX show Kasino wanted to include the B-boy riding a BMX. Cool!

I also caught up with an old school Melbourne friend who I originally went to Brisbane with for the first time back in 87 and we ended up piecing a few places around town. I promised him that when i come up again, I’ll get busy and bust out a Paris classic piece on canvas for him. All I can say is that the weather up north is real good, warm and sunny and we're still in winter! It was great to paint in the back yard along with clear blue skies! My mate was loving every minute to see some spray can action happen after all the years and since then he’s been talking to draw again so I think a little corruption has evolved! …all in the name of fun i say.

I recently headed up north to Brisbane and stopped over in Sydney to catch up with fam and friends. I had the intention to piece a canvas for my girl Spice but time only allowed for a black book sketch! I'll save that one for my next trip.

So, after a quick tour of the centre to view a few murals on the building i was drawn to the art room. It was a good space with plenty of materials on hand and a variety of art work on display that the local kids had created. I too got the urge to create something and asked Spice to hook me up with a sketch pad and markers. I was only too happy to donate a sketch to a Queen!

Hope it made her day!

I was welcomed back to The Place after last months live piece was a huge success! This time, i was back again to paint a live canvas and for it to be donated as a giveaway at next months event. I was more than happy to join the Nu Format crew to help out with building up their new theme to Melbourne’s urban styled nightlife events!

I find painting on canvas a little harder to having a huge wall space but never the less it’s the only way to be able to have it transportable to pass onto some lucky winner at next months event.

Live artwork was one of the highlights for the night. I invited Zode and Deb to rock on down and bust out with some dope flava! I’m happy with the end result, I freestyled my piece and normally painting live in a crowd adds a bit of pressure but this one turned out for the best! All peeps who came and checked it out (and survived the fumes!) seemed to dig it. Thanks to Deb for bringing down some lights and leads as I normally have that pleasure! I was relieved and surprised to find another organised individual for a change!

The Footscray walls was kind enough to have me back! I did eventually show up to the wall fashionably late but it was all systems go to beat the fading winter light that set so quick! I freestyled this piece and tried a white outline for a change. All i can say is that i wish i had more light! I only had an hour of light and I raced to get it finished. I was happy to see the result the next day, a lot better than i thought it would be!

Madspin relocated from a small single terrace shop in Greville Street Prahran, to a new larger location in Emma Street, Collingwood. Madspin is a local designer/brand and favours urban style street art culture. The Prahran store had all interior walls covered by local artists Duel, Reach, Phibs and Obe.

This time Madspin asked me to come in and rip it up across three walls with a perspective style piece. I hadn’t done a wrapped piece across walls before so to get the proportion right took some time. The end result gives an illusion that the piece is on one wall rather than wrapping around three.

After a delayed to start (waiting on an electrical contractor to finish!) it worked from 11.30pm to 3am then back in to wrap it up the next day from midday to 3pm. Madspin only had less than 24 hrs to clean, prep and merchandise the store. It was amazing to see a difference the next day!

So, next time you head down to all the Smith Street outlets, be sure to head in to Madspin and check it out. Located at 7 Emma Street Collingwood (directly behind Nike’s Smith Street factory outlet).

Thur 15th Apr, 2010. Every Picture Tells a Story Dance Festival, Melb Docklands, Australia.

It was a time in the ’90s where the Melbourne Docklands was home to techno dance and rave style parties. The abandoned sheds that used to be the orignal ports in Melbourne are nearly all gone but a few left. They've been demolished and replaced with high rise apartments. A new metropolis! So, after 10 years a well known promoter got his old crew together to stage another dance party for a one off bash and this time he commissioned around 20 local Melbourne writers to paint boards which were to be used as interior wall props. I hit it like ’88 and busted out a true Paris Style classic! I never got to go to the event as I had attended the Burbs Festival in Sydney to paint there so from what I heard it was a huge success so I hope we will see more in the future! The laser lighting was apparently off the hook so i found some pics to show as well. Enjoy!

I was invited to go to Sydney this weekend to paint a mobile wall that Spice hooked up for a team of 7 writers. It's an annual event and each year Spice invites different artists to paint which ends up having different styles and skills be created. An advantage to this Spice added, it gives a great opportunity for writers to paint together with other writers that would probably never cross paths! So true and in saying this the outcome was executed quite well with the variety of styles all put together. I met some new faces and reunited with others and after a full days painting in a festival vibe, we created a masterpiece to always remember!

What more can I say, it started out to head down to the Knox wall to watch the SUG crew (Stick up Girlz) get busy on a historical piece being that it was a first time that all 7 members got to meet in one place from all over the world and to paint a theme wall together to showcase what talent their crew stands for.

It wasn't long before I was asked if i would like to paint on the other half of the wall along with another 7 local writers. So if you can picture a boys vs girls theme then that's about right. A first for me and i must admit it was an experience I'll never forget. I was so happy hear that an event like this came to our town as none of the girls are from Melbourne. So chances of this happening in our town is unlikely to happen but it did and I hope there's more to come!

Overall the Knox wall stretches approx 70 mt long x 3 mt height and was rolled out with a black background base and the pieces all worked together side by side along with some dope characters by Jorz and Shiro. I don't have finished pics of the entire wall yet but as I will get them, I'll post them up for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy.

Thanks to Jase and Dom for inviting me to paint on their wall. A planned visit by Spice (IBS/SUG) one of Sydney's old school/true school b-girls came down to Melbourne to paint with us and to also meet with all the SUG crew for the first time to do what they do best!

Melbourne put on a hot sunny day and the mood was set thanks to my iPod connected to my old school ghetto blaster! It was a great day for all us to reunite and get to paint some fresh pieces together. I cherish times like these nowadays compared to the hey days back in the day!

Peril and I were invited to come paint this “old Blue Harris train wall” that was organised by a couple of local melbourne peeps who are working on a graf doco. Their aim was to recreate the old “Bluey” (as we called them back in the mid 80's before they scrapped them) and to have some of Melbourne’s artists who were around from day dot to come and put up on there train. I enjoyed the concept and was just itching to get down and paint. I wasn't going for an all out piece with this. I just wanted to put up a simple style with clean fills. It was what I did back in the day so i went down that path with this one. I might get back there again later on this year and hit up a more current style. Stay tuned! Peace.

Getting organised to paint this wall is always exciting as it reminds us of our master blaster C2F classic production we did back in ’88! …so at it again we planned to paint this well before our trip to the United States so now where back and getting a start at it before the years out. Thanks to Dabs n Myla for organising a wall whilst I was in L.A. I rocked up on a beautiful day to paint with Deb, Myla, Askem, Rime, Dabs and Meggs.

I'll never forget the Turkish bakery for the best pide’s and the Donut shop for Myla’s recommendation to try the Maple Syrup glazed donut. Pure magic!

I had a great day painting with these guys but couldn’t believe they can paint without music! Luckily my iPod saved the day!

I finished off the next day and Rime came past to snap a few pics, he asked me how did I get the thin lines for my trademark shiners. I gave him the nozzle i used and he was amazed by it. The quote was “wow, I learnt something new today” I was pleased that I could share that with such an amazing writer.

The first night in L.A. i drew a quick sketch for the next morning to hit the Venice beach legal walls. The weather was a lot nicer than New York and glad to be out of a down jacket and in shorts! Rasta colour theme was set and this was the result!

I met Mike at Universal Zulu Nation’s 36th Anniversary Jam and he rocked up with custom tees for KRS ONE, Donald D, Grand Master Caz and some other legends! After showing him some of our work he was itching to do us a tee. Peril and I thought a nameplate design would be a fresh design so Mike went away and almost a day later we met on a street corner outside S.O.B’s and did a clean deal! Get Trucked is an annual group exhibition presented by 696 to raise money for CanTeen. I was asked to donate some of my talent to paint some Trucker Caps and all proceeds to go to CanTeen to help young people living with cancer. The exhibition ran as a side event to Semi-Permanent Melbourne and was a great show held at my favourite gallery in town, Per Square Meter.

The theme was based on 24 Shine meaning B-boy name plates hanging off a chain.

do what we do best! The people waiting in line (approx. 30 meters long) were not bored by having our dynamic skills on show!

All in all Peril and I worked hard to pull off yet another C2F classic!
